TROOP 139 (Girls)

A TROOP MAKING HISTORY
Troop 139 was chartered in 2019 at Greens Farms Church and was one of the first girls troops in the country, having been formed shortly after the landmark decision to include girls.
The founding members (pictured above) were: Amelia Gura, Annabelle Lott, Charlotte, D’Anna, Clarissa Fleming, Jordan O’Brien, Kaitlyn McGillion-Moore, Leilani Fleming, Maddie Speller, Olivia Earle, Samantha Hossain, and Sophia Hossain.
In June of 2019, Neha Arora joined, bring the troop to a dozen founding members! Of the girls founding Troop 139, Olivia Earle and Jordan O’Brien bridged from Cub Scout Pack 100 and both were awarded the Arrow of Light. A detailed history of the troop is below.

TROOP 139 HISTORY
(as told by our scouts!)
After chartering as a Founding Scouts BSA Girls Troop in 2019, the scouts started by taking a First Aid and CPR class at the Westport EMS to earn our First Aid Merit Badge in February. We also earned the Climbing Merit Badge at City Climb Gym in New Haven. The Troop loves to be outdoors and tries to plan for a camping outing one weekend each month such as hiking the Appalachian Trail, bike/camping trips to Block Island, and a very cold advancement weekend at Pound Ridge Reservation in New York (it was actually really fun…but also really cold!).
As a Troop individually and with Troop 39, we did a lot of community service projects. For example, we did Scouting for Food, where we dropped paper bags with a list of food items at peoples’ homes, and then picked up donations the next week. We delivered 1500 pounds of food to the community food bank! We also collected old and laid new flags on Veterans’ graves; marched in the Memorial Day Parade; acted as hosts/guides at the Westport Library Maker Faire; and helped at the Rotary Club Lobster Fest. In the fall/winter, Troop 139 prepared and served meals for the Westport Gillespie Center.
In February of 2020, the Troop welcomed Emily Xue and Vanessa Overgard from Cub Scout Pack 39 (Talia Mann also joined, but moved away for a bit and did not officially join until September 13, 2020.)
THEN COVID HIT …
On September 13, 2020, Troop 139 held its fall Court of Honor. Wow, what a successful summer we had – Patrol Leader Amelia Gura was awarded several merit badges, her rank advancement, and service star. Scoutmaster Joe D’Anna awarded the Scout Service Award to Second Class Scout, Jordan O’Brien, for her 35 hours of community volunteer service, and Assistant Scoutmaster Katherine O’Brien, awarded the Scout Spirit Award to First Class Scout Charlotte D’Anna.
Since the early days, the troop has continued to grow and its scouts are thriving! They won the Council-wide Klondike Derby in January 2023 and have a record number of scouts on track to achieve the highest rank of Eagle in the 2025-2026 scouting year.
